Liberal Democrats call for full review of prison rules

Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP has urged the Scottish Government to carry out a comprehensive review of prison rules to crackdown on all unauthorised items in Scotland's prisons.

Scottish Ministers have today announced a ban on mobile phones in jails to stop crime lords running their organisations from behind bars.

Commenting, Mr Brown said: "Liberal Democrats welcome this ban on mobile phones in prisons. But we want to see the Government do more to crackdown on unauthorised items in Scotland's jails.Robert Brown MSP, Glasgow

"There should be a comprehensive review of prison rules to clarify exactly what is and is not authorised in Scotland's jails.

"This will help to clarify the rules and stamp out the ongoing scourge of drugs and organised crime syndicates in prison."
