Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, condemned the SNP Government for ignoring Argyll & Bute's transport problems whilst lavishing large amounts of money on the central belt.
The only Argyll & Bute project which will go ahead is road widening on the A82 between Tarbet and Inverarnan. Even this is a recycled announcement as the project had been approved as long ago as May 2006 by the previous Lib Dem Transport Minister Tavish Scott. Mr Reid said, "I am shocked that the SNP have ignored Argyll & Bute's transport problems whilst lavishing money on the central belt, Aberdeen and routes to Inverness. There is no money for improvements to the A83, A85 or the many other crumbling roads throughout Argyll & Bute. There is no money to improve the inadequate rail service between Oban and Glasgow. There is no money to tackle the landslide risk that exists on many stretches of the A82, A83 and A85. The only crumb of comfort is that the SNP have not cancelled the improvements to the A82 intended by the previous Lib Dem Transport Minister."
