Commenting on the news that the Vion food company will be cutting 150 jobs at its Cambuslang manufacturing facility, Liberal Democrat MSP for Glasgow Robert Brown said:

"This is bad news for workers in Cambuslang, especially against the backdrop of the current economic crisis.

"The Scottish Government must immediately direct PACE, their redundancy task force, to engage with Vion and support those people facing redundancy. Skills training and advice must be made available as quickly as possible.

"It is good news that the site will continue as an ongoing manufacturing facility as it has been in Cambuslang for some years. I hope that the company will now be able to attract new business streams to enable re-expansion."

Ends.

Notes to Editors:

PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment), is a Scottish Government initiative which put in place a national framework for a consistent and co-ordinated public sector response to dealing with companies in difficulty at all stages, including redundancy.
