MP Willie Rennie has responded to the latest jobless figures in the Dunfermline and West Fife by calling upon the UK and Scottish Governments to do more to support the Fife economy.

The latest unemployment statistics, released today, show that there has been a 6% increase in unemployment in the region over the past month. Furthermore, there has been a huge 46% rise in unemployment since this time last year.Willie Rennie MP: Dunfermline & West Fife

Commenting after the figures were released, Mr Rennie said:

"Yet again we have more evidence that the West Fife economy is suffering adversely in this current economic downturn. How many more statistics like these need to be released before Ministers - both at Holyrood and at Westminster - realise that our region needs specific and urgent support?"

"The Liberal Democrats have put forward a package of proposals which would provide a real boost to the local economy. I hope that Ministers will give our proposals serious and immediate consideration. Otherwise, there is a very real danger that the situation will continue to get worse."
