Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP has welcomed an open letter from retailers expressing concern at the lack of parliamentary scrutiny of the SNP's alcohol proposals.
Mr Brown has already written to the Justice Secretary demanding that the proposals be brought forward in a proper Parliamentary Bill. This would then be subject to full and detailed scrutiny by a Parliamentary Committee and a vote by MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.
Commenting, Mr Brown said:
"Scotland's alcohol problems are complex. We need a considered approach, not the SNP's politics of stealth and soundbite
"It is outrageous that the SNP is trying to sneak through such major reforms.
"Liberal Democrats will be pushing hard for the alcohol proposals to be subject to proper scrutiny, debate and, most importantly a vote.
"The public and the industry should have a say and MSPs need time and the ability to vote on different bits of these proposals.
"I wrote on Friday to the Justice Secretary making exactly this demand."
