Willie Rennie, MP for Dunfermline and West Fife has declared victory after the Liberal Democrats campaign to save 25% of Scotland's forests from being sold off forced the Scottish Government to make an embarrassing u-turn.
Commenting, Mr Rennie said:
"The new Environment Minister has performed the welcome u-turn that Mike Russell was too arrogant to see through.
"Rather than listening to the strength of opposition to this ludicrous plan to sell off Scotland's family silver, Mike Russell resorted to personalised attacks on the Liberal Democrat campaign.
"But, Jim Hume, George Lyon and Liam McArthur continued to fight to save our forests. Today our campaign has triumphed and the SNP has finally seen sense.
"It's just a shame that the Scottish Government couldn't see the forest for the trees and didn't make this decision earlier."
