Repeated flooding near Yetholm, and persistent speeding in villages around the Borders have been amongst a range of issues that local residents have raised with Michael Moore MP during his extensive summer programme of community advice surgeries.
Mr Moore has held surgeries in many of the smaller communities in the Borders every summer since he was elected, and since this year's programme begun on 27 July has covered over 700 miles in carrying out over 40 advice surgeries around the constituency. Significant issues of concern have included longstanding problems such as the need for a greater Police presence in many areas, inadequate mobile phone network coverage, and a lack of affordable housing.
With the onset of the economic downturn, complaints regarding the failure of banks to meet their lending obligations, and the difficulties local businesses have had in accessing financial support from Scottish Enterprise have also been raised by a number of constituents.
Commenting, Mr Moore said:
'In addition to my regular surgeries, my summer community advice surgeries give me an invaluable opportunity to connect with people in areas of the Borders that I may not have the chance to visit on a regular basis.
'As ever, these surgeries have raised a number of issues that I will be pursuing vigorously with the relevant Government Ministers and Agencies over the next few weeks'.
