Jeremy Purvis MSP: Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale MSP, Jeremy Purvis has today welcomed the announcement that Broughton Primary School has been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag award.

Broughton Primary now joins this prestigious rank alongside Caddonfoot Primary School, St Peter's Primary School in Galashiels, Kirkhope Primary School in Selkirk, Cornbank Primary School in Penicuik, and Peebles High School. The Green Flag is awarded to those eco schools who are the highest achievers in all seven elements of the Eco Schools programme.

Commenting on the announcement, Jeremy said:

"This is an enormous success on the part of the staff, pupils and parents at Broughton Primary School in achieving this prestigious green flag award.

"Broughton Primary is the most recent example of how the Borders and Penicuik are showing other parts of the country how the Eco Schools programme can make a real difference to our environment; educating our young people in a diverse range of issues from energy conservation, biodiversity to waste minimisation and recycling.

"The staffs, pupils and parents of Broughton Primary, alongside those other green flag schools, are real ambassadors in environmental management and in raising awareness of what all our schools can do to help our local areas thrive.

"I look forward to many other schools in the Borders and Penicuik following their example and joining this exclusive rank of green flag eco schools."
