Further disarray for Royal Mail as workers receive overtime payments late

With postal workers planning to go on strike later this week in protest against the running of Royal Mail, local MP Willie Rennie has described the organisation as being in "complete disarray" after it was also revealed that postal workers in the Dunfermline sorting office have failed to be paid on time for their overtime shifts.

Following a number of complaints from constituents, Mr Rennie wrote to Royal Mail's Chief Executive, Adam Crozier, to ask Royal Mail to clarify their position regarding the payment of overtime and to investigate whether these procedures were being adhered to at the Dunfermline sorting office.

In their reply, Royal Mail claimed he was "unaware" of any problems and maintained that staff had received their overtime payments on time. However, with the chaos of the national strike looming, Mr Rennie believes Royal Mail's refusal to address the problem will further undermine relations between staff and the company.

Commenting Mr Rennie said:

"This week's planned strike, on top of the failure to deal with this overtime issue, tells me that Royal Mail is organisation that is in complete disarray.

"Workers at the Dunfermline sorting office have approached me personally to tell me about their situation, so for Royal Mail to be 'unaware' that there is even a problem really does beggars belief.

"I'm concerned that unless senior management get their house in order, that this will only further damage relations between staff and the Royal Mail."
