Commenting on damage to roads caused by the recent bad weather, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:
"There is no doubt that the bad weather will have resulted in significant damage to roads. Councils face hefty bills for dealing with snow clearing over such a protracted period and these additional unbudgeted costs will pile on the pressure.
"Under these exceptional circumstances, the Scottish Government needs to consider whether it could assist by reviewing Transport Scotland's maintenance budget to allow as a 'one off' spending to be targeted on the most affected roads, whether they are trunk or local."
