Reacting to calls from NFU Scotland for the simplest option suggested by the Scottish Government to be used in distributing the EU's proposed dairy fund, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
"After what has been a very difficult year for the sector, distribution of these funds simply cannot happen soon enough.
"Recent Dairy Summits have made it clear that without targeted help and a change in the balance of power with supermarkets, Scotland's dairy farmers face a difficult and uncertain future.
"However these funds are distributed Ministers must make sure that the dairy farmers most in need of support receive a fair share and that final decisions are taken as a matter of urgency".
