MORE FOCUS ON EXERCISE AS THE WINTER OLYMPICS KICKS OFF - FINNIE

The Liberal Democrats have wished every success to team GB at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and expressed hope that Scottish athletes will be amongst the UK medal winners. Liberal Democrat health spokesman Ross Finnie has also urged the Scottish Government to use the Winter Olympics to create a new focus for increasing the number of Scots taking part in regular exercise.
Commenting, Mr Finnie said:
"As the Winter Olympics in Vancouver open we wish all the athletes in Team GB every success and very much hope that Scottish athletes will be amongst the UK medal winners.
"The Winter Olympics provides an opportunity for the Scottish Government to reinforce the benefit for Scots of increasing the amount of regular exercise they take.
"For everyone more exercise will improve their health. For many, the Olympic Games can inspire them to take up a sport. It gives a window onto the huge range of sporting chances there are.
"The prospect of the forthcoming 2012 London Olympics and 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games is an added incentive for Scots to get amongst the medals."
