Stephen warns Edinburgh and Aberdeen forensic labs could become outposts

Commenting after challenging the Justice Secretary on his plans to downgrade Aberdeen and Edinburgh Forensic laboratories, Liberal Democrat MSP for Aberdeen South Nicol Stephen said:

"The Justice Secretary is not retaining the Aberdeen and Edinburgh forensic laboratories as he claims.

"In reality, he is cutting and slicing them until they are little more than outposts of the two centralised super labs.

"The Cabinet Secretary dodged telling us how many jobs are going to go at the Aberdeen lab as result of turning it into a satellite.

"He owes it to the hard working staff to come clean on how many jobs are at risk instead of subjecting them to another review in 18 months time.

"These plans are a major betrayal from a Justice Secretary who only wants to centralise services."
