Child safety on aircrafts must be revised, according to Scots MEP Elspeth Attwooll. At present, small children are not entitled to a special safety seat, being held in their parent's arms or buckled into a loop belt.

More than 16,000 people have now signed the Alliance of Liberals of Democrats for European sponsored petition www.sayno.eu against child trafficking, but Elspeth Attwooll MEP insists that more people must sign so that the 1 million target can be reached and a clear message to the world.

Elspeth Attwooll MEP is celebrating the European Parliament's adoption of a written declaration on volunteering, which celebrates the 100 million people who volunteer each year, and calls for 2011 to be declared the official European Year of Volunteering in recognition of this shared spirit.

Elspeth Attwooll MEP has today condemned rip-off websites that sell ring-tones and other mobile phone services, as new research shows that as many as 80% may be in breach of EU consumer rules.

The UK Government must work closely with devolved administrations inside the UK, as well as other Member States, if the current economic crisis in the fisheries sector caused by rising fuel costs is to be alleviated, according to Elspeth Attwooll MEP.

Scots fliers will no longer risk being misled when they buy flights online, thanks to new European rules that will require companies to advertise and display the actual total cost of flights on their websites, while also making optional extras opt-in rather than opt-out.

Scots MEP Elspeth Attwooll is insisting that credit card companies come clean over the extortionate hidden costs of withdrawing cash from holes in the wall in other EU countries.

Elspeth Attwooll, Lib Dem MEP for Scotland, was in the Borders at the weekend, where she attended the Veterans' Concert in Kelso's Tait Hall on Friday night and a local Farmers' Market on the Saturday morning. She was joined at the market by Euan Robson, the former Liberal Democrat MSP for Roxburgh and Berwickshire and current number two on the Scottish Lib Dem list for the 2009 European Parliament elections.

Mon 23rd Jun 2008:

Elspeth Attwooll MEP is backing new European Parliament proposals to make car-fronts safer to protect pedestrians and cyclists when on the road. The plans, forwarded by Italian Liberal MEP Francesco Ferrari in a report published last week, call for new braking technology to be made compulsory from 2009 and for more research to be devoted to developing new anti-collision systems for car-fronts.
